The Ethereal & Otherworldly Realm of Digital Infrared
Explore the fascinating, ethereal, and otherworldly realm of digital infrared photography. Infrared is a wavelength above the visible spectrum that we can’t see, but your digital camera can. You can use an opaque infrared filter, such as the Hoya 72IR on most digital cameras (with a tripod), or have a camera converted to infrared use. With the demise of infrared film and the dominance of digital photography, digital infrared photography is gaining interest as a desirable creative photographic technique.
You’ll also learn various techniques to hand color your infrared images in Photoshop, as well as other creative Photoshop techniques to enhance your images. In addition, a session on digital inkjet transfers is offered, where you can transfer digital prints to watercolor paper, fabric, or handmade papers.
Bring a digital camera, IR opaque filter and tripod, or converted IR camera for some creative adventures in infrared photography, plus some fabric and handmade papers. If you don't have a camera and filter to use, Kathleen will have two cameras that you can use on a shared basis. Presentations and field trips included.

Attractions
The Photographers’ Formulary sits in the middle of 26 acres of Montana’s Swan Valley, surrounded by mountains to the east and to the west, and along the shores of seven glacial lakes. The Bob Marshall Wilderness, the largest wilderness area on the continent of North America, lies just across the highway on the western slopes of the Rockies and climbs to the peaks of the Rocky Mountains. Brilliant sunrises and golden sunsets add to the beauty of this unique location, and help make it a photographer’s land of opportunity. To the west, across pasturelands next door, the Mission Mountain Wilderness stretches into the distance.
Less than two hours to the north, Glacier National Park straddles the international border between the United States and Canada. Flathead Lake, the largest natural lake west of the Mississippi, is less than an hour’s drive, and with the many other lakes and streams the Swan Valley offers unparalleled natural beauty.
