The newest addition to the Washington D.C. skyline is the soaring, spectacular, and highly photogenic Air Force Memorial, located on a bluff behind the Pentagon with a sweeping view of the nation’s capital.
Three stainless steel spires designed by architect James Ingo Freed arc gracefully up 270 feet into the sky to simulate the Air Force Thunderbird jet contrails when they do their famous "Bomb Burst" formation. The safari begins early on a Sunday morning to take advantage of the early morning light glinting on the steel spires. You will photograph them in creative ways, from different angles. Then, photograph the statues of the four Air Force soldiers standing in honor guard at the base of the memorial, and you can also capture sculpted jets encased in glass as they "fly" towards the memorial. From the memorial's base, get a great view of the D.C. skyline. Rain or shine, this $30 million memorial is a great place for pictures.
Meet at entrance to Air Force Memorial on Columbia Road, Arlington, VA.
